Concept art, extras, and resources for kids and parents on bullying/anxiety
During the course of writing this book, I researched bullying a great deal: how bullying works, what bullying looks like, and, perhaps most importantly, the best ways to deal with bullying. Below I have shared some resources that may be helpful if you, or your child, friend, or someone you know is dealing with incidents of bullying.

As a lover of art and writing, I sometimes find it easiest to sketch out my ideas for stories in a visual form. For Enemy Mind, the surrealistic setting of Kreo's mind was complex. I had ideas in my head for what I wanted Kreo's mind to look like, but I needed to see for myself how they actually worked. Here are two early sketches I did to just get some possible images down on paper.
During the course of writing this book, I researched the difficult topic of kids being cut from sports teams and the psychology of rejection in general a great deal. Below I have shared some resources that may be helpful for dealing with similar types of rejection.
As a lover of art and writing, I sometimes find it easiest to sketch out my ideas for stories in a visual form. For the prologue, I had this image in my head of Syah waking from her dream and seeing Emdaria City outside her window. I felt I had to get that idea out of my head. So I created a color sketch to help me imagine what the city could look like. This particular scene actually takes place in the first chapter of Enemy Mind; however, Wicked Stepsister features art in some important ways, and I think this little sketch of Syah sketching is a fun way to acknowledge that idea.
During the course of writing this book, I researched anxiety a great deal: how anxiety works, anxiety specifically in kids, and, perhaps most importantly, the best ways to deal with anxiety--in yourself and others. Below I have shared some resources that may be helpful if you, or your child, friend, or someone you know has anxiety.

As a lover of art and writing, I sometimes find it easiest to sketch out my ideas for stories in a visual form. I wanted to try to capture the feeling of Syah entering the Drift--and someone's mind. So while this sketch wasn't of any particular scene I was trying to visualize, I still felt I wanted to create something that could help to show this important part of Syah's life. And that's why this concept looks a little dreamlike--it helps relate Syah's experience of going into someone's mind with how I describe it in the books as being a little like falling asleep. The experience of exploring someone's mindscape also has a sort of dreamlike quality. So I think I made this sketch to try to "see" Syah's state of mind at that point. And Dream Monsters is all about the creations of a mind--both the good and the bad . . .
